Extra dry red vermouth – red wine flavored with Sardinian roots, flowers, berries, and aromatic herbs, with no added sugars

Mediterranean scrub in a glass: gentle bitterness, a wild aroma, and the candor of an uncompromising wine.

Meigamma Red Vermouth

Meigamma's Red Vermouth begins where all the winery's wines originate: the small 1,1-hectare vineyard of native vines, Guyot-trained on sandy soil 500 meters from the sea. The grapes are managed exclusively with sulfur and copper, and harvested by hand in October, at the height of a particularly hot and dry year. The resulting red wine, unfiltered and without additives, is then infused with Sardinian roots, flowers, berries, and aromatic herbs, and lightly fortified with alcohol, without any added sugar. The result is an extra-dry vermouth unlike any other: dry, herbaceous, and deeply distinctive.

The roots of this Red Vermouth are deep in tradition

Vermouth is one of Italy's great inventions: born in the workshops of Turin in the 18th century, it descends from a much older practice, that of aromatic wines, which the Romans already prepared for digestive and healing purposes. In each region, the recipe adapted to the available plants: and few lands are as generous with botanicals as Sardinia, where the Mediterranean scrub has provided intensely fragrant roots, berries, and flowers for centuries, harvested and transformed by popular wisdom into liqueurs and infusions. This Red Vermouth combines two traditions: the nobility of Piedmontese vermouth and the wild soul of the island, with a radical choice that sets it apart: no added sugar, unlike more archaic aromatized wines.

Choosing Red Vermouth means taking care of yourself

Choosing this Red Vermouth means choosing a simple and transparent aperitif: unfiltered artisanal vineyard wine, infused Sardinian botanicals, and lightly fortified, with no added sugar or additives. The lack of sugar makes it remarkably drier and more digestible than commercial vermouths, which are often heavily sweetened, and highlights the bitter, herbaceous notes of the Mediterranean scrub plants, which folk tradition has always associated with digestion. Any cloudiness is a sign of its unfiltered nature. Since it is a fortified wine, moderation is even more important: a small glass, sipped slowly, is the ideal size.

How to Best Use: Red Vermouth

  • THE SMOOTH APERITIF, WITH ICE AND ORANGE PEEL: an extra dry vermouth of this level is enjoyed alone, cold, with a citrus peel of the Box of Organic Sicilian Citrus Fruits and croutons spread with the Organic Black Olive Bruschetta: the bitterness of the botanicals meets the melting note of the olive.
  • THE MEDITATION GLASS WITH DARK CHOCOLATE: at the end of the meal, serve it at 12–14°C next to a square of Organic Dark Chocolate 71%: the absence of sugar in the vermouth allows the cocoa to emerge in all its aromatic depth.
  • THE BOLD BOARD WITH PECORINO AND COMPOTE: The scrubland herbs love sheep's cheeses. Try it with Falisco Aged Pecorino and a teaspoon of organic red onion mustard: savoury, sweet and sour and herbaceous bitterness in a single bite.
