What are Amaretti?

Amaretti are biscuits of Italian origin, with a characteristic slightly rough surface and a crunchy texture. These sweets, made with almonds, sugar and egg whites, are typical of Lombard and Piedmontese cuisine, but are widespread throughout Italy.

There are several variations of amaretti, the original recipe of which dates back to the XNUMXth century. Usually, amaretti are vanilla-scented and slightly bitter (hence their name), thanks to the addition of aromas such as apricot or black cherry. Some versions also include chocolate or hazelnuts.

Macaroons are a delicious accompaniment to coffee or tea, but they can also be used as an ingredient in many recipes. The most common use is crumbling to use as a base for desserts such as tiramisu.
