Organic Chianti Superiore DOCG

Sangiovese 95% and Colorino 5%, fermentation in concrete tanks and aging in French oak, 14% vol

The elegance of great Chianti d'autore: classic Tuscan tradition, organic and from the FIVI supply chain.

The Organic Chianti Superiore DOCG from Fattoria Majnoni Guicciardini

Il Organic Chianti Superiore DOCG of the Majnoni Guicciardini Farm is theclassical and authorial expression of the great Tuscan tradition, in stark contrast to the experimental approach of the Red Tintero from the same cellar: here the 95% pure Sangiovese reigns supreme, enriched by a 5% of Colorino —a historic native Tuscan variety, the secret ingredient of the great traditional Chiantis. The grapes are hand-picked between second half of September and beginning of October, when the Sangiovese reaches optimal maturity. winemaking follows protocols of the highest oenological elegance: spontaneous fermentation in concrete tanks (an ancient traditional technique, today re-evaluated by great winemakers for its ability to maintain stable temperatures without interfering with the flavours), three-week maceration on the skins to obtain well-integrated structure, colour and tannins, mixed refinement in stainless steel and French oak of several passages (already used wood, which does not attack the wine with strong toasting, allowing the varietal identity of the Sangiovese to express itself). A wine elegant, structured and of great longevity: in the years in which the winery does not produce the Reserve (2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024), benefits from the riper grapes of the grape harvest and of longer refinements in wood, becoming an excellent substitute for the Reserve itself.

The roots of Chianti are sunk in the formula of Baron Ricasoli

Il Chianti is one of oldest and most celebrated wine denominations in the world, a symbol of Tuscan and Italian winemaking. Its classic "recipe" was formalized by Baron Bettino Ricasoli (1809-1880), great statesman and second Prime Minister of united Italy, in a famous letter of 1872 addressed to Professor Cesare Studiati of Pisa: he prescribed a blend based on Sangiovese (for “the main nerve of the wine”), Canaiolo (to “sweeten the harshness”) and Malvasia (for its “vivid aroma and freshness”). The name became DOC in 1967 e DOCG in 1984 (highest Italian quality certification). Chianti Superiore DOCG is a subcategory introduced in the 1996 which imposes quality parameters that are much higher than those of the basic Chianti: maximum yield 70 quintals per hectare (vs 90 of the base), minimum alcohol content 12%, minimum refinement of 9 months (of which at least 3 in bottles), originating from selected areas. The Tiny — a native Tuscan red grape variety — is one of the historic grapes of the Chianti blend: its name itself (“small colour”) testifies to its function as "dyer" Sangiovese wines, providing chromatic intensity, fine tannins, and depth. Long marginalized in favor of international grape varieties, Colorino is now rediscovered by the great Chianti d'autore as an element of varietal authenticity. Majnoni Guicciardini's Chianti Superiore is part of the noblest Tuscan tradition—organic, FIVI, and true to the terroir.
