ESTATE ORSINI

The ancient Azienda Agricola Tenuta Orsini, located on the outskirts of the historic village of Nepi, has been mainly involved in the production of high quality hazelnuts and other organic products since 2009.

Specialized in the breeding of dairy cattle and in the production of wine, she abandoned these agricultural practices in the 90s.

In 2009 he began the cultivation of hazelnuts and approaches organic farming.

HISTORY

Located at the gates of the historic village of Nepi, a place rich in history, fortified since ancient times and which has traces of Etruscan, medieval and Renaissance walls.

Used by the Romans since 300 AD for commercial advantages, thanks to its strategic position. Always at the center of continuous struggles between aristocratic families, the mighty fortress was built under the Borgias in 1499, built on a design by Antonio da Sangallo the Elder, with high walls still visible around the city.

The estate that belonged to the ancient Orsini family between 1396 and 1435, from which it takes its name, is the only testimony of the dominion that the family had in the territory of Nepi.

The extension of the company, bordering the ancient village of Nepi, was much greater than the current one. On the land where it was previously cultivated, today the new part of the city has arisen.

During the Second World War, the estate was used as a control outpost by the Germans who, following the landing of the American troops, set the farmhouse on fire.

Subsequently it underwent a major restoration and in 1955 the company was sold by the Marquis Gerini to the Drago / Buonfiglio family, who are still the owners today. In those years, works were carried out to enlarge the farmhouse with the construction of a church as an ex voto in Santa Carmela, named after the owner's wife, Nicola Drago, who survived a serious illness.

In 1985 she was chosen as a film set for the film “Il Camorrista”, released in theaters the following year, which marked the directorial debut of the Oscar winner Giuseppe Tornatore.

To date, the Estate organizes evenings with rock concerts whose profits are donated to Avita Onlus and hosts motorcycle / enduro courses for Honda Italia, thanks to the presence of a dedicated circuit.

In addition, the presence of the church within the estate offers the possibility of holding weddings, baptisms and other events.
