Malabar Black Pepper from Les Jardins de Gaïa

Les Jardins de Gaïa's Organic Malabar Black Peppercorns are the true king of spices. They are the fruit of a tropical vine, harvested before ripening and dried in the sun. During this process, the yellow husk shrivels and turns brown, giving rise to the characteristic black pepper. The Malabar region of southern India is the historic birthplace of pepper. This strong and spicy organic black peppercorn is the perfect seasoning to enhance any dish: more intense than white pepper, it's ideal for steaks and grilled meats. It comes from associations of small Indian producers, in accordance with fair trade principles. A genuine spice, certified organic, freshly ground to release its full aroma.

The roots of this pepper are deep in the history of world trade

Black pepper has always been considered the "king of spices," and its history coincides with that of world trade. The Malabar region, on the southwest coast of India, is its historical cradle: from here, pepper set sail on ships and caravans to reach ancient Rome, where it was so precious it was used as a currency and a symbol of wealth. In the Middle Ages, pepper was worth as much as gold, and the thirst for this spice drove explorers and merchants to seek new routes to the Indies, changing the course of history. Malabar pepper, in particular, is considered among the most prized in the world for its intense and balanced aroma. Les Jardins de Gaïa preserves its authenticity with an organic and fair trade supply chain, faithful to this noble tradition.

Choosing Malabar Black Pepper means taking care of yourself

Black pepper isn't just a flavor enhancer, but a spice with recognized benefits. Its active ingredient, piperine—responsible for its spiciness—is known to aid digestion by stimulating the production of gastric juices, and for its antioxidant properties. Piperine also has the extraordinary ability to increase the absorption of other nutrients and active ingredients, such as curcumin from turmeric, which is why the two spices are often combined. Its intense aroma allows you to flavor dishes while reducing the use of salt, benefiting a more balanced diet. Grinding it freshly preserves all its essential oils and properties. Its organic origin guarantees a pure, high-quality spice.

How to Best Use: Malabar Black Peppercorns

  • IN THE QUEEN'S "CACIO E PEPE" — It is the soul of the famous Roman dish. Stir in the Organic Senatore Cappelli Rigatoni al dente with flakes of Organic Pecorino Romano DOP and a generous grinding of black pepper, for an irresistible classic.
  • ON STEAKS AND GRILLED MEATS — Stronger than white pepper, it is the seasoning of choice for meat. A freshly ground pepper on a Sirloin rare or on a Bistecca Fiorentina enhances its juiciness and flavor.
  • AN ORIGINAL SWEET-SPICY COMBINATION — Surprising with its sweet and creamy flavors. Try it ground on a Buffalo Burrata or, even more daring, on "Favetta di Terracina" strawberries fresh, where it unexpectedly enhances the sweetness of the fruit.
