L'Acino's “Ceci n'est pas un Magliocco”

"Ceci n'est pas un Magliocco" is a red wine made from 100% Magliocco Canino grapes, a different variety from the more well-known sweet Magliocco: hence the label's playful paradox. It's a fresh, refined, and elegant red, characterized by a lovely acidity that supports its drinkability and enhances its elegance. Spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, the absence of fining or filtration, and nine months in stainless steel followed by bottle aging fully preserve its authenticity and finesse. It originates from the hills of San Marco Argentano, a region cultivated using natural methods that put the land at the center. A subtle and surprising red, a faithful expression of a rural Calabria capable of astonishing.

The roots of this Magliocco Canino lie in art and tradition

The label's name is a refined homage to René Magritte's famous surrealist painting, "Ceci n'est pas une pipe," which urged us not to confuse representation with reality. Likewise, this is not the Magliocco you might expect, but a distinct variety, Magliocco Canino, with a fresher and more refined character. This grape variety also has its roots in ancient Calabrian viticulture, a legacy of Magna Graecia and centuries of rural wisdom. Long confused or lumped together with other varieties, Magliocco Canino is now being revalued for its elegance and pronounced acidity. The grape celebrates its identity with irony and a natural, respectful winemaking process.

Choosing this Canine Magliocco means taking care of yourself

A wine produced through spontaneous fermentation using indigenous yeasts, without fining or filtration, represents a conscious choice for a more natural and authentic drinking experience. The absence of invasive interventions preserves the integrity of the product and its original characteristics. Magliocco Canino, a red grape variety, is naturally rich in polyphenols and anthocyanins, compounds with recognized antioxidant properties. Its pleasant acidity and finesse make it a balanced and highly drinkable red, to be enjoyed in moderation in the convivial Mediterranean tradition. Choosing a wine made using natural methods also means supporting sustainable agricultural practices and valorizing a precious native grape variety.

How to Best Use: Ceci n'est pas un Magliocco

  • WITH DELICATE MEATS AND REFINED SECOND COURSES — Its finesse and acidity make it ideal for elegant and not too fatty dishes. Serve it with a biodynamic veal fillet or Biodynamic Veal Roast for a classy match.
  • WITH STRUCTURED FISH AND SEAFOOD PREPARATIONS — Its freshness makes it one of the rare red wines capable of accompanying fish. Try it, slightly chilled, with a Mediterranean Bluefin Tuna fillets or with the Smoked Irish Salmon for a bold and successful combination.
  • WITH FIRST COURSES WITH MUSHROOMS AND VEGETABLES — Its elegance enhances the delicate flavors of the woods and the earth. Pair it with Senator Cappelli Tagliolini seasoned with a fragrant shiitake cream for a fine and fragrant dish.
