Sage's Organic Sorghum Drink

La Organic Sorghum Drink of Salvia (Materviva brand) is a small, revolutionary proposal in the panorama of Italian vegetable drinks: the first drink made exclusively from sorghum — an African cereal with an ancient history and extraordinary environmental, agronomic and nutritional qualities — simply accompanied by water and one pinch of whole sea salt. Nothing else: no added oil, no added sugar, no additives (no preservatives, no emulsifiers, no thickeners). A radical and pure composition which testifies to the Salvia philosophy "Less ingredients, more value". Perhaps the most characteristic revolutionary of this drink is the complete absence of food allergens: unlike all other plant-based drinks on the market (oats = gluten, almond/hazelnut/cashew = tree nuts, soy = allergenic legume, rice = generally good but often mixed with other allergens), the Sorghum Drink is naturally gluten-free, lactose-free, nut-free, soy-free, and contains no known allergens.. Sorghum, in fact, is one of the cereals with the lowest allergen profile in the world: a perfect choice for those who suffer from multiple intolerances, for children with complex allergies, for patients in the process of reintroducing food. An authentic product inclusive, sustainable and of the highest nutritional quality.

Sorghum's roots lie in ancient Africa and the contemporary climate challenge

Il sorghum (Bicolor sorghum) is one of the oldest cereals in human agricultural history: domesticated approximately 8.000 years ago inEast Africa between Sudan andEthiopia, has been the staple food of hundreds of millions of people across the African continent and in theIndia. Today is the fifth most cultivated cereal in the world (after wheat, rice, corn and barley) and represents the food base of over 500 millions of people, especially in Africa, India and Central Asia. In the African gastronomic tradition it is an ingredient of injera Ethiopian (fermented bread), ugali Kenyan and bowl of West Africa; in India it is the basis of the roast of sorghum (called Jowar) and numerous vegetarian preparations. In the last 10-15 years sorghum has become the “cereal of the climate future”: its cultivation is spreading rapidly in the Po Valley, Emilia-Romagna, Marche and Tuscany as agronomic response to progressive drought that climate change is bringing to Southern Europe. botanical feature more extraordinary than sorghum is its resistance: it grows even in the absence of rain, developing roots up to 2 meters deep capable of reaching the moisture of the deep layers of the soil. Once harvested, its roots remain in the soil nourishing it and creating the base for further sowing — agronomic behavior opposite to that of "energy-hungry" cereals such as corn. Sorghum requires up to 50% less water compared to corn and grows where other grains failIt is grown without heavy pesticides, improves soil biodiversity, and contributes to the regeneration of land stressed by monoculture. Growing and consuming sorghum today is a ethical choice towards the Planet: every litre of Sage Sorghum Drink contributes to supporting an agricultural model resilient, regenerative and low water impact, in line with the global sustainability goals of the 21st century.

Choosing Sorghum Drink means choosing rare antioxidants, magnesium and inclusiveness

The Sage Sorghum Drink offers a rich and rare nutritional profile, distinctive in the family of plant-based beverages. Sorghum is nutritionally unique: contains antioxidant polyphenols in quantities higher than brown rice and other common cereals, in particular condensed tannins, Anthocyanins (in the colored varieties, of which red and black sorghums have the highest values) and phenolic acids with protective action on free radicals. It provides Magnesium in significant quantities (important for the nervous, muscular and cardiovascular systems), vegetable iron, Phosphorus, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, B vitamins (especially niacin, B6 and folates) and a precious dose of fibers. The 1,5 g of fat per 100 g are entirely natural, with a good fatty acid profile (mainly unsaturated). protein content is 18% higher than Pure Oat Drink (0,9 g vs 0,8 g per 100 ml).index glicemico of sorghum is moderate-low, particularly appreciated by those who manage their blood sugar. Naturally gluten free (perfect for celiacs and gluten intolerant people), vegan (VeganOk certified), lactose-free, free from known food allergensSorghum is also indicated for diets low FODMAP, For anti-inflammatory diets, for the programs of food reintroduction after multiple allergies. A drink authentically democratic: Few plant-based products are suitable for such a wide audience of consumers, even those with complex nutritional needs.

How to Best Use: Organic Sorghum Drink

  • BREAKFAST INCLUSIVE, COLD OR HOT
The most used noble and contemporary of Sorghum Drink is the conscious breakfastIts neutral and slightly sweet profile (4,9 g of natural sugars derived from starches) makes it popular with everyone, from children to athletes, from health-conscious consumers to those with multiple intolerances. Enjoy it cold from the refrigerator for summer breakfasts or warmed over low heat for winter breakfasts. It pairs wonderfully with Organic Rice Cakes (for a breakfast completely gluten-free), with fresh seasonal fruit, Fresh Figs and Organic Sicilian Mango to recall the African and tropical origins of sorghum. For a warm winter breakfast with Indian note, heat it with a spoonful of Turmeric Powder, a grating of Fresh Ginger  and a pinch of cinnamon for a Vegan and allergen-free golden milk — a culturally consistent pairing with the African and Indian origins of sorghum.
  • SMOOTHIES, SMOOTHIE BOWLS AND NON-ALCOHOLIC COCKTAILS
Sage Sorghum Drink is wonderful base for smoothies and shakes thanks to its neutral taste that does not overpower the other ingredients - an important advantage compared to more characteristic vegetable drinks (almond, hazelnut, coconut). For one tropical smoothie Inspired by East Africa: 250ml drink + half Sicilian Mango + banana + a small piece of fresh ginger root. For one energy smoothie: 250 ml drink + Medjool dates + bitter cocoa + cinnamon. For a detox smoothie: 250 ml drink + 1 apple + 2 black cabbage leaves + a tablespoon of lemon juice. Excellent as a base for smoothie bowl to decorate with fresh fruit, dried fruit and oil seeds. Also exceptional in summer non-alcoholic cocktails: try it with Organic Apple Juice in a 1:1 ratio, ice and a mint leaf for a refreshing alcohol-free drink.
  • SAVOURY CUISINE AND PASTRY INCLUSIVE
La versatility of Sorghum Drink also shines in savory cuisine, where few plant-based drinks express themselves well. Splendid as a base for vellutata e vegetable creams (leeks, pumpkin, potatoes, celeriac, Jerusalem artichoke), for vegan béchamel sauce for lasagna, cannelloni and vegetable gratins, for creamy polenta with a silky character, for risotto creamed at the end of cooking. Excellent in gluten-free breads and in gluten-free focaccias as a hydration fluid. In inclusive pastry shop (for celiacs/allergy sufferers), it is the ideal substitute for cow's milk in gluten-free vegan puddings (300 ml drink + 30 g corn starch + natural sweetener + flavourings), gluten-free custards, agar agar panna cotta, Artisan ice cream in the ice cream maker. Wonderful for gluten-free pancakes and crepes with rice or buckwheat flour, for autumn plum cakes with dates or dried figs.
