A different garlic for every season: the best local varieties, from Rosso di Sulmona to the excellences of Proceno and Castelliri.
A sensory journey that follows the cycles of the earth, where each bulb tells the story of the land it comes from.
Seasonal Natural Garlic isn't just garlic; it's an invitation to rediscover the authentic flavor of rural Italy. Depending on the time of year, we select the finest local varieties available from small farms: from the celebrated Sulmona Red Garlic to the finest varieties from Proceno, Castelliri, and Nepi. Each bulb is grown using natural methods, fully respecting the land and its cycles, without forcing or chemical treatments. It's seasonality made into a product: what arrives in your pantry changes with the calendar, always guaranteeing freshness, character, and a direct connection to its territory of origin.
The history of garlic begins in the steppes of Central Asia, where millennia ago it began its journey along ancient trade routes to conquer the Mediterranean basin. But it is in small Italian villages that this plant has found its most precious expression: in Sulmona, in the Peligna Valley of Abruzzo, red garlic has been cultivated for centuries and celebrated as an agricultural jewel; in Proceno, in the upper Tuscia area near Viterbo, red garlic cultivation has been documented since the 18th century; in Castelliri, in Ciociaria, entire generations have woven traditional bulb halters to hang in pantries. These local varieties are a heritage of biodiversity at risk of disappearing: choosing them means keeping it alive.
Eating seasonally is the first rule of wellness, and garlic is a perfect ambassador. Rich in sulfur compounds like allicin, it is studied for its positive effects on circulation and appreciated for its antioxidant properties, which help fight free radicals and support the immune system. Traditional varieties, grown slowly and without forcing, develop a superior aromatic and nutritional concentration. Including natural garlic in your daily diet means choosing an ally of wellness just as nature intended, free from pesticides and chemicals.
Hang the heads in a cool, dry, and airy place, as per peasant halter tradition, or store them in a basket away from heat and humidity. Since this is natural garlic, untreated with anti-sprouting agents, it's best to consume it within a few weeks to enjoy its full fragrance: this is the truest sign of its authenticity.
