Organic Sant'Andrea Rice

Sant'Andrea Organic DOP Rice: Authenticity and Artisanal Flavor

This Sant'Andrea rice represents one of the finest examples of Italian rice cultivation. Grown in Piedmont, in the heart of the Baraggia Biellese and Vercellese, this rice benefits from a unique terroir that has earned it the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certification. This prestigious certification is complemented by the Organic certification, which guarantees a product grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, fully respecting the land and its biodiversity.

Its medium-long, semi-tapered grain is characterized by a high percentage of starch. This characteristic makes it extraordinarily versatile in the kitchen: during cooking, the starch is released, creating a natural creaminess, especially in risottos. Despite this, the grain maintains an excellent balance between holding its shape during cooking and absorbing seasonings, resisting overcooking and perfectly binding with every flavor.

Presented in an elegant fabric box with various decorations, it is a product that pleases not only the palate but also the eye, ideal for a high-quality gastronomic gift.

The roots of this Sant'Andrea rice are deep in tradition

Baraggia, known as the Italian "savannah" due to its unique soil and climate, is a Piedmontese plateau where rice cultivation has ancient roots. It is a harsh yet generous environment, which endows the rice grown here with unique properties. Baraggia Biellese e Vercellese DOP rice is the first and only Italian rice to have obtained the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), a seal that safeguards its origin and production method.

Sant'Andrea is a historic variety from this area, prized for generations for its incredible versatility. Knowing how to grow it organically in such a unique territory means continuing a tradition of excellence, respecting nature's rhythms to produce a healthy, flavorful bean.

Choosing Sant'Andrea Organic DOP Rice means taking care of yourself.

Consuming rice that's both organic and DOP offers a double guarantee. On the one hand, organic certification ensures the absence of pesticide and chemical fertilizer residues, bringing a pure and authentic product to the table. On the other, the DOP protects the unique nutritional qualities associated with its territory of origin.

Rich in starch, this rice is a source of complex carbohydrates, which provide slow-release energy for the body. It's highly digestible, naturally gluten-free, and suitable for all diets. It's the perfect choice for those seeking a healthy, sustainable, and superior-quality staple for their cuisine.

How to Best Use: Organic Sant'Andrea DOP Rice

  • CREAMY RISOTTO WITH SAFFRON AND PARMESAN

This is its preferred use. Its richness in starch is perfect for a risotto "all'onda". Toast it and cook it with vegetable broth (perhaps made with Vegetable cube with fresh organic herbs). In the last few minutes, add some Organic Saffron Pistils and stir off the heat with butter and plenty of Parmigiano Reggiano 24 months.

  • RICH SOUPS AND RICE SALADS

Its firmness also makes it excellent for soups. Try it in a rich soup with Trasimeno bean and seasonal vegetables. In summer, once boiled, it's excellent for flavorful rice salads, topped with fresh vegetables and a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil.

  • ARANCINI, FRITTERS AND SWEETS

Its "sticky" consistency after cooking makes it the secret ingredient for regional preparations. Use it as a base for arancini (or supplì) with a heart of Mozzarella di Bufala e Tomato Pulp, or for sweet rice fritters and traditional rice cakes.
