An ancient breed of pig known and consumed since Roman times, today much appreciated in Italy.
His skin is slate gray in color, characterized by the absence of hair.
Today this breed is in decline putting this species among the endangered animals, but thanks to the preservation of this species we are witnessing its rebirth.
It is enough to know that in 1995 there were only 20 specimens present in the area, today there are around 2000.
Raising them is not easy, this pig needs space and to live in the woods or in any case in large, open spaces.
They love to feed on chestnuts and acorns and forest products without using feed, they are very similar to wild boars.
This particular diet makes pork rich in polyunsaturated fats, responsible for good cholesterol even to a greater extent than saturated ones
The breeding procedure is regulated by ANAS (national pig breeders association) which has created a complex regulation for the welfare of the animal, from the quality of its feed and spaces to its killing which must be carried out in the least painful way possible.
