Strawberries

We went to the Veio park and met Luigi who led us to the discovery of “Idrofarm”, a small company that grows strawberries of the San Andreas and Monterey varieties, also known as “la rossa de Roma”, in hydroponics.

VISIT:

?Luigi explained to us that the cultivation of strawberries in hydroponics takes place in bags of coconut fiber and perlite, eliminating the use of pesticides, reducing the use of fertilizers by up to 95% and having a water saving of over 65% compared to to a crop in the field.

HYDROPONIC CULTIVATION:

?Hydroponic cultivation is a cultivation technique conducted in a closed environment in which plants are grown out of soil, thanks to the action of water and through the control of environmental parameters.

?It is an agricultural system which, compared to traditional agriculture, optimizes urban spaces by developing in height, significantly reduces waste of water and nutrients and the intensive exploitation of the land, avoiding the impoverishment of the soil and the loss of minerals and eliminates the use of pesticides and pesticides.

?Although hydroponic agriculture involves the use of equipment, electricity and structures, the pollution levels, for the same product obtained, are significantly lower than traditional cultivations.

?The hydroponic cultivation technique in fact maximizes the yield in terms of quality, quantity and speed, increasing productivity up to 20%, furthermore, considering the reduction of cultivable areas and the growing needs of the population, it is considered by many to be "sustainable agriculture of the future".

LA ROSSA DE ROMA, STRAWBERRY

?Their natural cycle is about 4 months, going from a vegetative phase of about 2 months to a productive phase of another 2 months, and their life is about 2 years even if to always have a constant production in volumes we make the change of all plants around 18 months.

?The Rossa de Roma strawberry is large in size, bright in color and has a sweet flavor with the right acidity point, excellent shelf-live.
