Valvisciolo Abbey: A Journey Through History and Products

Valvisciolo Abbey, located in the province of Latina, is an architectural jewel that has its roots in a past rich in history and spirituality.

Founded according to tradition in the 8th century by Basilian monks, the abbey has seen the passage of various religious orders, today the Cistercians and, according to some sources, the Knights Templar.

The current structure, in Romanesque-Gothic-Cistercian style, dates back to the 12th century and is considered one of the greatest examples of religious architecture in the area. The cloister, with its finely decorated columns and capitals, is an oasis of peace and beauty.

Father Andrea and Artisan Production

Today the abbey is animated by the presence of Father Andrea and his community. Following the Cistercian tradition of industriousness and self-sufficiency, the monks dedicate themselves to the production of a variety of high-quality artisanal products.

• Liquors: Father Andrea is known for his skill in creating artisanal liqueurs, using local herbs and fruits. Among the most popular are the laurel liqueur, the wild fennel liqueur and the nocino.
• Miele: The abbey bees produce a fine honey, characterised by an intense and aromatic flavour.
• Royal Jelly: Their best-selling product, royal jelly in ampoules, a true excellence of the abbey with centuries of tradition.
• Cosmetic products: Using the beneficial properties of herbs and essential oils, the monks create creams, soaps and other body care products, respecting nature and tradition.
• Art objects: The creativity of the monks is also expressed in the creation of sacred art and craft objects, perfect as souvenirs or gifts.
