Genzano di Roma: the family-run organic farm in the Castelli Romani that thrives on bees, fruit orchards, and grandma's recipes.
Four hectares of passion, three generations of love for the land
Ciotti Chiara Farm: The Dream of a Young Farmer from the Castelli Romani
A Genzano di Roma, on the gentle slopes of the Castelli Romani overlooking Lake Nemi, stands the Ciotti Chiara Agricultural Company: a small family business born in 2021 from the will of a young peasant girl, Chiara Ciotti, to take over her grandfather's farming legacy and give new life to a land that the family had cultivated for generations. "The land was rented to cousins," Chiara says, "so I took over my grandfather's farm and we started off": a courageous choice, a return to the roots, which transformed a family legacy into a contemporary agricultural project entirely managed by the family. Biological. Today, on four hectares Located in the Castelli Romani area, the company produces fruit and vegetables, honey, and extra virgin olive oil, using a harmonious crop rotation that enhances the area's biodiversity.
Chiara's story: growing up with her grandfather, bees, and authentic flavors
Chiara's passion for the land has deep roots in her childhood: “Since I was little I have always been in contact with my grandfather, with the bees, with the countryside“, he says. “And when you know certain flavors, it's inevitable to fall in love with them.” A sensorial education before an agronomic one, made of smells, gestures, hands that teach. The grandfather was the first teacher, the grandmother born in 1917 — passed away in 2023 —the keeper of recipes passed down for over a century. Her grandmother's recipes are still Chiara's point of reference today: every preserve, every transformation, every dish in the company kitchen carries within it a family legacy spanning generations. An emotional and cultural continuity that makes every Ciotti Chiara product much more than just a simple food: a small act of remembrance.
Bees: the company's first love and starting point
The company started “mainly at the beginning with bees“: a choice that speaks to Chiara's profound philosophy, inspired by the symbiosis between pollinating fauna and plant production. “Having orchards above, we have always used bees for pollination.” A seemingly obvious choice that actually encompasses an entire ecological vision: not agriculture as domination over nature, but as biological network care which supports every production. Bees are the beating heart of the company — both honey producers and guarantors of the pollination of 2,5 hectares of orchard: apricots, peaches, cherries, apples, blackberries, raspberries and numerous wild plants grown for their nutritional and cultural value.
Working with wild plants and herbs: the authentic signature
One of the most distinctive features of the Ciotti Chiara Company is the deep dedication to wild"We work a lot on wild animals, on what the land offers.“, says Chiara. A philosophy that recovers the tradition of farmer foraging — the collection of wild herbs — applied in the company by mother Ciotti, which deals with the selection and processing of wild herbs. A small herbal wisdom passed down from woman to woman, which enhances the native biodiversity of the Castelli Romani landscape and brings forgotten flavors to the table. Constant experimentation with innovative varieties, the exchange of seeds and knowledge with other agricultural realities, complete the picture of a company that looks to the future while maintaining a firm anchor in tradition.
One family, one land: three roles, one project
The Ciotti Chiara Agricultural Company is a real three-person family-run business, where everyone brings skills and passion:
Dad Ciotti deals with the tractors and the hydraulic part of the company: the technical backbone of the project, guarded by the expert hands of those who know every piece of land.
Mother Ciotti he dedicates himself to wild herbs: collection, selection, and processing of wild plants according to the knowledge handed down by the family.
Chiara She is the visionary leader of the project: agronomist, beekeeper, and experimenter. She is supported by her partner cook which pushes her to experiment with new varieties — “He pushes me to experiment“, he says — the company also becomes a permanent gastronomic laboratory, where each new variety planted immediately becomes a recipe, an experiment, a discovery.
The olive grove: 400 trees including Leccino, Pendolino, and Santoro
One of the most important realities of the company is theolive grove: well 400 plants of three traditional Lazio varieties: Leccino (the most widespread variety in central Italy, with medium-sized fruit, excellent for balanced oils), Pendolino (exceptional pollinator and producer of a sweet and elegant oil) and Santoro (a lesser-known native Lazio variety with a strong fruity character). From this blend comes a Extra Virgin Olive Oil A symbol of the Castelli Romani region: harmonious, balanced, and rich in antioxidant polyphenols thanks to its organic cultivation. An oil that speaks of a land and a family in every drop.
