Biofavole – Where a mother's love becomes a farm's fairytale, and nature is told in a jar.

Once upon a time, in Valdaso…

Amid the rolling hills of Ortezzano di Fermo in the Marche region, where the Sibillini Mountains reach out to the Adriatic coast and medieval villages smell of salt and broom, lies a story straight out of a fairytale. A story that begins not with "Once upon a time," but with something even more powerful: a mother's love. It was 2015 when Alessandra Poggi, a thirty-year-old new mother, discovered that her little Leonardo suffered from food allergies that had emerged during weaning. It was then, staring at supermarket shelves full of commercial baby food and overly long labels, that Alessandra made a life-changing decision: she would prepare everything her baby would eat herself, with her own hands, with the same care her mother and grandmother used to make her creams of all kinds.

Family memory becomes a business

This isn't anything new to Alessandra: she grew up on homemade baby food and creams, even bringing them to university for lunch. "They were my lunch," she smiles. That ancient gesture, that family memory passed down from generation to generation, is now blossoming again as a small domestic revolution. And in 2016, just a year after Leonardo's birth, a bigger idea took shape: converting the family's orchards to organic and creating a farm that could offer other families what Alessandra prepared for her little one. Thus was born Biofavole, a name that encapsulates her entire poetic vision: transforming country fruits and vegetables into small, rich and delicious vegetable fairy tales, preserved in glass jars like treasures to be given as gifts.

A tale written by many hands

As in every respectable fairytale, this one has its protagonists, each with an essential role. The orchard, two and a half hectares of vegetable garden and fruit trees, belongs to Fabio's husband's grandparents: a land that has seen generations of farming hands. Uncle Augusto, a partner in the company with Alessandra, is the custodian of the farm's work, the man who speaks to the trees and reads their seasons. Mother-in-law Maria is the guardian of the seeds: it is thanks to her that chickpeas, peas, pumpkins, and tomatoes grow again every year from the same plants, in a virtuous cycle of self-reproduction that is living genetic memory. And Maria is also the source of many recipes that come to life in the company laboratory. Finally, Fabio lends a hand on weekends and during holidays: because some fairytales, to be true, must be written together.

The challenge of organic, the revolution of small

In 2019, after three years of conversion, Biofavole achieved organic certification. An ethical choice, rather than a commercial one: no chemical fertilizers, no synthetic pesticides, just respect for natural cycles and the patience of those who know that the best fruits ripen over time. The greatest challenge, beyond climate change, is to ensure uncompromising quality excellence. And they do so by putting their heart and soul into it: every stage of production, from harvesting to packaging, is carried out by hand in the company's laboratory. The techniques and recipes are those of grandmothers, 100% natural. No preservatives, no additives, no colorings: just pulp, juice, and the love of those who know that what they prepare could end up on their children's plates.

Debunking a myth: artisanal baby food exists

There's a persistent belief: that baby food is the exclusive preserve of large industries and multinational retailers. Biofavole dispels this myth with the quiet power of facts. Its production is small, niche, yet accessible to anyone seeking a genuine alternative for their children. A closed, zero-mile supply chain, where the raw materials grow in the field next to the laboratory and arrive in the jar without ever leaving the company's confines. It's concrete proof that producing excellent-quality baby food, outside of the industrial circuit, is not only possible: it's a must.

The fables of Biofavole, today

Today, Biofavole produces a universe of fruit and vegetable "fairytales" that showcase the seasonality of the Marche region in all its nuances. There are the soft pear, apple, apricot, and plum purees of the Baby Line, made with 100% pulp, with no added sugars or preservatives, perfect for accompanying little ones' first steps towards the world of flavor. There are the dense, ready-to-use cream soups of cauliflower, pumpkin, peas, and zucchini, without added salt or oil, capable of transforming an ordinary dinner into a healthy and comforting dish in five minutes. There are authentic tomato and eggplant purees, rich chickpea creams, jams with just 20% sugar from organic Italian beets, fruit compotes sweetened with grape juice, sweet and sour beans, giardiniera, natural artichokes, pickled vegetables, even a ketchup and a stock cube that redefine what “natural” means.

A tale that continues to be written every day

Biofavole isn't just a farm: it's the story of how family love can become a project, how the Marche rural tradition can be reborn in a contemporary way, how a young mother can change the way we think about children's nutrition. It's proof that the most authentic gastronomic revolution doesn't happen in large industrial warehouses, but in laboratories where work is still done by hand, in orchards where every tree has a name, in kitchens where recipes are passed down from grandmother to granddaughter. In every Biofavole jar, there's Valdaso, there's Leonardo's story, there's Alessandra's love, there's Maria's patience as she guards the seeds. There's, in short, a fairytale that continues to be written every day. And we at AlPassoFood are proud to bring it to your home, because some fairytales deserve to be told, but above all, they deserve to be experienced.
