Native to Southeast Asia, ginger is a plant often known for its aphrodisiac root. In fact, its benefits are much more numerous.
The underground part of ginger contains several active ingredients, including gingerols and shogaoli. The latter give it an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and tonic activity.
Studies show that the ginger rhizome also has a preventive effect against nausea and vomiting.

Ginger is a tropical herbaceous perennial that can grow 90 centimeters to 1,50 meters in height. It has leaves up to 20 centimeters long and flowers of different colors: yellow, white, red.
The most sought after part of ginger is the horizontal underground stem: the rhizome.
The rhizome has a light beige skin, an irregular shape and a yellow pulp. While young rhizomes have juicy pulp, mature rhizomes are more fibrous and have a stronger flavor.
Ginger is often known for its aphrodisiac properties. In fact, it acts more exactly like a natural tonic. It can therefore have beneficial effects on sexual vigor and be effective in fighting fatigue.
Ginger has traditionally been used to combat a variety of digestive ailments. For example, it has been recommended for many years to combat stomach pain and diarrhea.
Finally, ginger has beneficial effects against nausea and vomiting. The World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission and the European Scientific Coordination on Phytotherapy (ESCOP) recognize its use to prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness.
The rhizome of ginger also contains antioxidant compounds. These compounds counteract oxidative stress, i.e. the accumulation of hyperreactive and harmful oxidative species for cells. In this way, the active ingredients of ginger can promote cell survival and fight premature aging of the organism.
Several studies attribute an anti-inflammatory activity to the ginger rhizome. Its compounds appear to be effective in relieving muscle and joint pain of inflammatory origin.
In addition to toning the body, ginger can also boost the immune system. Studies show that it is particularly effective in fighting some infections, especially viral ones such as seasonal flu.
Ginger in powder or dried root form tastes different from fresh ginger, but is still strong and fragrant. Galangal is used as an alternative to ginger in Thai cuisine.

Ginger is an excellent spice for flavoring drinks, be it chocolate milk, fruit juices, smoothies, etc.
It is widely used to flavor tea (in powder or in pieces). For example, it is used in lemon tea, ginger and pineapple rooibos, or organic chai tea. In fact, it is a central ingredient of the chai blend, along with cinnamon, cardamom, star anise, or cloves, which flavors tea in India. It is also delicious just infused or in ginger juice.
It is an ingredient found in most Indian drinks, such as golden milk. Throughout Southeast Asia, the rhizome is used to flavor drinks: Lion Lager, a beer from Sri Lanka, in teas from Bali, directly in water in Malaysia, etc.
Ginger is found in West Africa, such as in Senegal, Mali, Guinea and Ivory Coast, where the spice is combined with bissap flowers, or ginger juice "gnammankoudji" is prepared.
