Indian black tea from Dooars from summer harvest, Demeter and Elephant Friendly® certified – large, regular leaves of FTGFOP1 grade
A copper-colored cup with fruity aromas, underlined by an elegant spicy note reminiscent of Assam teas: a generous character that gladly welcomes a cloud of milk.

Putharjhora FTGFOP1 SF Biodynamic Black Tea is made from the large, even leaves of a summer flush harvest grown using Demeter-certified biodynamic methods. The cup is coppery, with fruity aromas highlighted by a lovely spicy note reminiscent of Assam teas: a generous tea that readily tolerates a drop of milk. The Putharjhora garden is nestled in the heart of the Indian Dooars, between the alluvial plains south of the Himalayan foothills and north of the Brahmaputra basin: a subtropical climate with abundant rainfall from June to October and rivers like the Teesta that irrigate the crops. The FTGFOP1 grade (Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe of first choice) certifies a fine harvest, rich in golden buds.
Dooars comes from the English "Doors." For centuries, this region has been a historic bridge between India and Bhutan, a mosaic of sanctuaries and national parks such as Gorumara, famous for its Indian rhinoceroses, red-necked hornbills, and, above all, its elephants. The pachyderms once migrated along forest corridors from Assam to the Nepalese border; today, due to deforestation, they often venture into tea gardens. To restore the balance between humanity and nature, the Putharjhora tea garden has adopted Elephant Friendly® certification: a dedicated elephant passageway has been opened, protecting the community as they cross, while the fair trade premium has funded solar panels for street lighting at night. Each cup of this tea thus speaks of the possible coexistence between the "giants of Putharjhora" and those who grow its leaves.
This summer-harvested black tea offers a full and sustained boost of theine, released gradually thanks to the tannins: the ideal ally for energetic mornings and focused afternoons, without the jittery rush of coffee. It's rich in theaflavins and thearubigins, antioxidants characteristic of fully oxidized teas, which support cardiovascular health and help counteract oxidative stress. Drinking plain, it's calorie-free and aids digestion after meals. Demeter-certified biodynamic cultivation, which considers the garden a living organism in harmony with the rhythms of nature, guarantees whole, vital leaves free from any synthetic chemicals, respecting the health of the drinker and the ecosystem that hosts the plant.
Since 1994, Les Jardins de Gaïa has offered exclusively organic teas and herbal teas, with Demeter certification since 2003 for the promotion of biodynamics. A certified member of the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) and proudly Elephant Friendly®, it supports the Wildlife Friendly Enterprise Network© and its vision of a world where humans and animals can coexist: from leaf to cup, every practice meets the requirements of fair trade.
