Les Jardins de Gaïa Organic Uganda Black Tea

Organic Uganda Black Tea is a tea that surprises from the first sip: produced using agroforestry in Uganda, it seduces with its beautiful aromatic complexity, a true reflection of the biodiversity of its terroir. The cup is velvety and devoid of any bitterness, with pleasant fruity aromas that evoke the sweetness of mango over a sweet-malty base, intense and indulgent. The leaves come from the Kahangi Tea Estate in the Kabarole District of western Uganda: a landscape dominated by the Rwenzori Mountains and the foothills of the Albertine Rift Valley, with a tropical climate, distinct wet and dry seasons, and sandy, loamy, and red clay soils. Each pack sold with the "Save The Chimps" label donates €0,50 to the Sebitoli Project, active since 2008 in the study and protection of chimpanzees in the nearby Kibale National Park.

The roots of this Uganda Black Tea are deep in the great African tea tradition.

While China and India immediately evoke tea, East Africa has written one of the most fascinating chapters in the recent history of this beverage: along the Rift Valley, amidst generous altitudes and equatorial rainfall, the tea plant has found its ideal terroir since the early 20th century. In Uganda, cultivation has taken root on the fertile slopes at the foot of the Rwenzori, the legendary "Mountains of the Moon" of ancient geographers. Black tea is born from a skillful process of complete leaf oxidation: withering, rolling, oxidation, and drying transform the green leaf into a concentrate of malty and fruity aromas. In the entirely artisanal production of Kahangi Tea Estate—the only certified organic tea producer in the country, where a majority of female growers of diverse ethnic origins work—this ancient art meets permaculture, practiced throughout the estate since 2006.

Choosing Organic Uganda Black Tea means taking care of yourself.

Black tea is a precious companion for tackling the day with energy: its theine content, released gradually thanks to tannins, provides a sustained and long-lasting boost, sweeter and more progressive than coffee. It is naturally rich in theaflavins and thearubigins, antioxidants typical of oxidized teas that support cardiovascular health and help counteract oxidative stress. Drinking plain, it is calorie-free, aids concentration and digestion after meals, and its smooth, bitter-free cup makes it enjoyable even without sugar. Organic agroforestry cultivation, in the shade of trees and without pesticides, guarantees whole, clean leaves that are respectful of the health of both the drinker and the harvester.
