De Weggis Organic Mangetout Pea Seeds

Directly from the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, the De Weggis Mangetout Pea (Also known as Pois Gourmand) is an ancient and valuable variety, introduced around 1942. We at Alpassofood We chose it for its extraordinary precocity and for the sweetness of its pods, which can be eaten whole, without waste.

This climbing variety produces thin, crisp, green pods, 5 to 10 cm long. It's the perfect choice for those seeking a productive, organic vegetable that brings a delicate, authentic flavor to the kitchen.

Technical Characteristics

  • Latin Name: Pisum sativum

  • Producer: Kokopelli (Organic and Reproducible Seeds)

  • Variety: Ancient, originally from Weggis (Switzerland)

  • Plant Height: From 120 to 150 cm (requires supports)

  • Pod: Green, short (5-10 cm), fine consistency

  • Content: 60 gram sachet

Growing Tips

The De Weggis Pea is a variety early which adapts to different sowing periods depending on the climate.

Sowing and Earthing Up

  • When to sow: From February to June for the summer harvest. In mild climates, sowing is also possible between October and February.

  • mode: Sow directly into the ground at a depth of 2-3 cmYou can sow one grain every 3 cm or in “postarelle” (groups of 3-5 seeds) every 20 cm, keeping 60 cm between the rows.

  • Care: About 3 weeks after the seedlings emerge, carry out the reinforcement (move some soil closer to the base of the stem) to provide stability.

Supports and Exhibition

  • Supports: Since it is a climbing variety that reaches 150 cm, it is essential to place supports or nets about 2 metres high before the plant begins to develop tendrils.

  • Plot: It prefers light, well-worked soils, rich in organic matter.

  • Exposure: Sunny or partial shade; keep the soil cool with medium watering.

In the Kitchen: Zero Waste

The "Pois Gourmand" is the king of quick and healthy cooking. Because it lacks a tough "edge," it's eaten whole:

  • Stir-fried: with a thread ofoil e leek to keep it crunchy.

  • Steamed: to preserve its natural sweetness and bright green color.

Kokopelli's Touch

These seeds aren't just organic, they're reproducible. This means you can collect seeds from your best plants and save them for the following season, becoming part of the history of this ancient variety.
