Puffed whole wheat spelt caramelized with organic cane sugar — a crunchy and delicious breakfast
The mountain grain in its festive dress: a shiny amber caramel dress on crunchy spelt clouds

This is the delicious version of puffed mountain farro: the whole grain, organically grown by Dolci Giuseppina in Monteleone di Spoleto, is puffed and then wrapped in a thin layer of organic cane sugar caramel, with a drizzle of sunflower oil to seal in its shine and crunch. Just three ingredients, all organic, for a breakfast that combines the substance of whole grains—5,2 g of fiber and 8,6 g of protein per 100 grams—with the immediate pleasure of a sweet crunch. This is farro that the whole family can enjoy: delicious enough to win over children, honest enough—in terms of its supply chain and ingredients—to win over parents.
The word caramel hides a history of travel: it derives from the medieval Latin "cannamella," sugarcane—literally "honey cane"—that the Arabs brought to Sicily around the 10th century, teaching Europe the art of cooking sugar until it turned amber gold. From that discovery, a confectionery tradition flourished, spreading throughout Italy at fairs and patronal festivals: brittle biscuits, ground almonds, and caramelized cereals sold in paper cones at food festival stalls—simple sweets born from the encounter between a humble ingredient and a layer of cooked sugar. This caramelized spelt is the direct heir of those festive stalls: Europe's oldest cereal dressed in the most delicious of Arab inventions.
Even in its most indulgent version, farro remains true to its nature: the base remains the whole mountain grain, with its fiber (5,2 g per 100 grams), protein (8,6 g), and mineral profile, while the sweetness comes from organic cane sugar, not glucose-fructose syrups or synthetic sweeteners. The ingredient list is a quick read—puffed farro, cane sugar, sunflower oil, all organic—without the artificial flavors, colorings, or preservatives that crowd industrial crunchy cereals. A delicious treat declared and transparent: to be enjoyed in the right portion, knowing exactly what's in the bowl.
Dolci Giuseppina is a family-run farm in Monteleone di Spoleto, the highest municipality in Umbria. On land inherited from their grandparents, at about a thousand meters above sea level, the family grows the famous mountain spelt along with ancient legumes and saffron, using methods that preserve the soil's fertility and an authentic farming tradition passed down from generation to generation.
