Organic Darjeeling Gaïa Bari Potong Black Tea from Les Jardins de Gaïa

Gaïa Bari Potong Organic Darjeeling Black Tea conveys its history in its name: "Gaïa Bari" literally means "Gaïa's garden" in Nepali, and is the culmination of the collaboration between Les Jardins de Gaïa and the small tea garden in Potong. This FTGFOP1 Darjeeling, from a summer flush harvest, offers an infusion with delicious aromas of toasted bread and fruit paste, complemented by a subtle hint of mace flower. The garden is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, in the Darjeeling district: a subtropical climate with loamy soils and a rainy season from April to September, where numerous streams and springs flow from the surrounding hills and forests.

The roots of this Darjeeling Gaïa Bari lie in the legend of the “champagne of teas”

Darjeeling is the most famous name in the world of tea: since 2011, the European Union has recognized these leaves as the only existing PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) for tea, a guarantee of geographical origin that protects both Indian producers and consumers, and which is officially displayed on the packaging. The Potong garden, created over a hundred years ago by the British, has undergone an extraordinary transformation: abandoned in the 70s, it was reborn when the local community united in the Potong Tea Cooperative to revive production. Today, the cooperative works in partnership with the Singell factory and has an irrigation system funded by Gaia Gardens to combat water scarcity caused by climate change. Past exploitation of natural resources had severely strained the land, which is now recovering thanks in part to new government protection measures.

Choosing Organic Darjeeling Gaïa Bari Potong means taking care of yourself.

Darjeeling from the summer harvest offers a rare balance between energy and finesse: its theine, moderate and gradually released thanks to the tannins, gently supports concentration, without sudden accelerations. Like all high-altitude black teas, it is rich in theaflavins and thearubigins, antioxidants that help counteract oxidative stress and support cardiovascular health. Virtually calorie-free when drunk plain, it aids digestion and offers an elegant mid-day break of clarity. Organic cultivation on the Himalayan slopes, nourished by mountain springs and free from synthetic chemicals, preserves the integrity of a leaf harvested and processed with artisanal care.

Best Uses: Organic Gaïa Bari Potong Darjeeling Black Tea

  • A FIVE O'CLOCK TEA IN PURE HIMALAYAN STYLE: serve this Darjeeling strictly natural, without milk or sugar, next to croutons with Organic Quince Jam — which perfectly captures the fruit paste notes of the cup — and organic Mugello biscuit, whose buttery crispness enhances the aromas of toasted bread.
  • A MEDITATIONAL END TO A MEAL WITH CHEESE: like a great wine, the summer Darjeeling accompanies a refined platter splendidly: try it with Pecorino cheese refined under grape marc and a teaspoon of Organic Plum Compote, for a dialogue of tannins, sweetness and toasted notes.
  • AN AUTUMN SNACK AT THE FOOT OF THE MOUNTAINS: on cool days, combine a steaming cup with almond cantucci and a handful of Organic Pecans: bitter almond and fresh walnut echo the discreet mace flower note of the tea.
