Small evergreen shrub with branches quadrangular section.
Le leaves they are opposite, finely toothed covered with hair, petiolate, oval-lanceolate, thick and wrinkled.
The inflorescences are vertical with flowers carried in whorls of 2 or 4, which appear around June-July.
La sage (Salvia officinalis) is a plant of the Laminaceae family.
Widely used in the kitchen to flavor various dishes, it is actually very useful also for itsantiseptic properties, inflammatory e diuretic.
Sage is, in fact, used in all female ailments such as premenstrual syndrome and against menopausal disorders (especially hot flashes). Promotes menstrual flow in case of amenorrhea, because the essential oil stimulates the female hormonal system and therefore the onset of menstruation.
Sage is used in diseases of the gastrointestinal system as a relaxant of smooth muscles, as it exerts a 'antispasmodic action, useful in case of irritable bowel, spasms in the digestive system or against menstrual pain.
The carnosic acid and triterpenes (amirin, betulin, crategolic acid and 3-hydroxy-ursolic acid) give the sage anti-inflammatory properties e diuretic offering a good response against water retention, edema, rheumatism and headaches.
Sage-based preparations are effective in fighting all forms of phlegm thanks to the presence of the essential oil from antiseptic and balsamic properties. For this reason it is used in the treatment of diseases of the respiratory system in case of colds, coughs, sore throats and fever.
