Dried organic sage from controlled organic farming
The herb that "saves", a concentrate of balsamic aromas from the peaks of Alto Adige
Pflegerhof Farm's Organic Dried Sage is more than just a kitchen spice; it's an olfactory experience that transports you straight to the sunny gardens of Sant'Osvaldo. Cultivated with dedication and respect for the land, this sage (Salvia officinalis) stands out for its thick leaves, rich in essential oils, which are hand-picked and gently dried to preserve their silvery color and penetrating aroma.
Unlike industrial varieties, which are often ground and tasteless, Pflegerhof sage maintains a healthy structure and an intense, warm, and slightly camphorated aroma. It's a versatile ingredient that exudes "farmhouse quality," capable of enhancing both rustic dishes and healthy herbal teas, bringing the purity and strength of Alpine nature into your home.
The name "Sage" derives from the Latin salvere, meaning "to be well" or "to save." The ancient Romans considered it a sacred plant, a symbol of longevity, so much so that a saying arose: "Why should a man die who has sage in his garden?" In the rural traditions of South Tyrol, sage has always been omnipresent, used both to flavor fatty mountain dishes, making them more digestible, and as a home remedy for daily well-being.
Sage is known for its extraordinary beneficial properties. It is a powerful natural digestive, ideal for combating a heavy stomach. Thanks to its balsamic and antiseptic properties, sage tea is traditionally used to soothe sore throats and mouth. It is also considered a tonic for the nervous system and an ally in rebalancing the body, confirming the wisdom of its ancient name.
For an infusion that warms the heart and soothes the throat, steep 1 gram of sage in 300ml of boiling water for 5 minutes. Once strained, add a teaspoon of ORGANIC CHESTNUT HONEY 500GThe strong, slightly bitter flavor of chestnut honey harmonizes perfectly with the aromatic notes of sage, enhancing its beneficial effects.
Sage is the soul mate of legumes. Add a generous pinch of crumbled leaves while cooking. SLOWFOOD® ORGANIC TRASIMENO BEANS 250GThe aroma of sage will make the beans more digestible and give the broth an irresistible aroma, typical of old-fashioned peasant soups.
Revisit the classic baked potatoes using the BIODYNAMIC PURPLE SWEET POTATOESDice them and season with plenty of extra virgin olive oil and dried sage. The contrast between the sweetness of the purple potatoes and the aromatic saltiness of the sage will create a simple yet impressive gourmet side dish.
Pflegerhof, located in Sant'Osvaldo beneath the Alpe di Siusi, is South Tyrol's first organic herb farm and a true pioneer in the field. Passionately managed by the Mulser family, the farm cultivates over 80 varieties of medicinal and aromatic herbs using strictly organic methods. Manual harvesting and gentle drying at low temperatures guarantee the highest quality products, rich in active ingredients and authentic aromas, fully respecting Alpine biodiversity.
