Una Garlanda's Organic Rosa Marchetti Rice

Organic Rosa Marchetti Rice is a prized and traditional Italian rice variety belonging to the "medium" rice group: in the white variety, the grain's distinctive crystalline structure holds its shape perfectly when cooked (16 minutes, or just 6 in a pressure cooker), making it excellent for both risottos and rice salads. Grown in Rovasenda, in the Vercelli area, by Una Garlanda using seeds reproduced on the farm since 2001, it grows in the rice fields of the Baraggia region, irrigated by flooding with water from the Sesia River and the Marchiazza Stream, without any fertilization or pesticides, thanks to the green mulching technique. Packaged exclusively in paper, plastic-free.

The roots of this Rosa Marchetti Rice are deep in tradition

Each grain of this rice carries a love story: the variety was introduced in 1972 by Domenico Marchetti, who discovered this naturally occurring plant—not a hybrid, with a still-unknown lineage—and dedicated it to his wife, Rosa. This was a rare gesture in the world of rice growing, where varieties typically take technical or geographical names. Rosa Marchetti quickly conquered the kitchens of Piedmont and Lombardy for its glassy grain, capable of remaining intact even when whole, before being gradually abandoned by intensive cultivation. Today, it thrives in the biodiverse rice fields of the Baraggia, where Una Garlanda has been preserving its seeds, propagating them on the farm, year after year, for over twenty years.

Choosing Organic Rosa Marchetti Rice means taking care of yourself.

This rice comes from a supply chain unmatched in transparency: no fertilization, no pesticides, and weed management through crop rotation, forage crops, and green mulch. White rice is naturally gluten-free, highly digestible, and suitable for all ages: a source of slow-release complex carbohydrates that provides consistent energy, with very little fat and virtually no sodium. Furthermore, the crystalline structure of Rosa Marchetti rice gradually releases starches during cooking, resulting in creamy risottos without the need for excessive added fat. A simple, clean, and certified grain from seed to plate.
