Organic Variegated Radicchio di Castelfranco

An Italian fruit and vegetable product with a protected geographical indication since 1996.

As suggested by the name, it originates from the Castelfranco Veneto area, but today it is produced in a wider area, consisting of 25 municipalities in the province of Treviso, 19 in the province of Padua and 8 in the province of Venice.

Product description

Radicchio variegato di Castelfranco is a green-yellow or creamy yellow leaf vegetable, spotted in red, with a globular shape but with an open head - different from the round radicchio from Chioggia and the tapered radicchio from Treviso and Verona.

The taste is bitter and the flavor is characteristic but delicate.

Variegated Radicchio from Castelfranco

A type of chicory native to the town of Castelfranco Veneto, in Veneto, Italy.

Characteristic of this variety of radicchio is its surprising appearance, with green and red variegated leaves and a creamy white heart. This unique aspect also distinguishes it from other types of radicchio.

Radicchio Variegato di Castelfranco is appreciated for its delicate, slightly bitter flavor that is not as strong as other types of radicchio.

Radicchio Variegato in the kitchen

The best way to enjoy this radicchio is in salads, where the delicate flavor and texture can really shine. It is also a popular ingredient in Italian cuisine, often used in dishes such as risotto or grilled alongside other vegetables.

Thanks to its popularity and unique qualities, Radicchio Variegato di Castelfranco is protected by the European Union as a traditional product.
