The small, ancient summer pear: sweet, fragrant, and juicy, organically grown.
Small in the palm, immense in taste: the July pear that can be eaten in two bites and smells of childhood.
Organic Coscia Pears are the harbingers of summer: small, rounded in shape, reminiscent—according to tradition—of a chicken leg, hence their curious name, with sun-reddished greenish-yellow skin and fine, juicy white flesh, perfectly sweet. An ancient variety among the first to ripen, they arrive on market stalls in early summer, when other pears are still far behind, bringing with them a delicate fragrance that modern pears have often forgotten. Grown according to organic principles, without pesticides or synthetic chemicals, they are best enjoyed with their skin on, in two delightful bites.
"Don't let the farmer know how good cheese is with pears": a medieval proverb tells of how precious this fruit was, so much so that lords jealously guarded its gastronomic secret. For centuries, the pear was the fruit of noble tables, cultivated in court gardens and monastery orchards, where monks selected dozens of ancient varieties. The Coscia is one of these legacies: a historic pear of central and southern Italy, beloved at July markets, when grandmothers bought it by the crate for their grandchildren and for preserves. Small, ancient, and perfect: history in a bite.
Pears are among the kindest fruits on the body: rich in soluble fiber like pectin, which promotes regular bowel movements and a feeling of satiety, they provide potassium, which is essential for fluid balance, vitamin C, vitamin K, and boron, a rare mineral that helps maintain healthy bones. Their low glycemic index and natural digestibility make them suitable for children, athletes, and the elderly, while the small size of the Coscia pear is the perfect portion for a zero-waste snack. Organic, they are best enjoyed with the peel: that's where most of their fiber and antioxidants are concentrated.
Coscia pears are harvested at the perfect time and ripen quickly: store them at room temperature if still firm, then transfer them to the refrigerator once ripe, where they will keep for 3-4 days. They are summer pears, created to be enjoyed immediately: take them out of the refrigerator half an hour before eating to restore their full aroma.
